The General Council of the Spanish Banking Association approved yesterday the expansion and reorganization of AEB’s management structure, which will be joined by Mr. José Luis Martínez Campuzano, Ms. Rocío Sánchez Barrios, and Mr. Juan Carlos Delrieu as area directors. The three, together with the General Secretary of AEB and Secretary of the Council, Mr. Javier Rodríguez Pellitero, will form as of today the Association’s first executive level, under the chairmanship of Mr. José Mª Roldán.
With this new organizational structure, AEB is establishing a more functional and flexible organization, structured into four major work areas under which the various existing advisory and departmental units are regrouped. Simultaneously, the Strategic Planning, Public Policy, and Communications areas are being strengthened with the incorporation of three new executives with recognized professional backgrounds.
The Chairman of AEB, Mr. José Mª Roldán, explained yesterday to the General Council that the purpose of this new structure is to undertake the coordination and execution of AEB’s strategy more effectively, while strengthening the Association’s presence in various media and public forums through the creation of the Spokesperson position.
The role of AEB Spokesperson will be performed by Mr. José Luis Martínez Campuzano, who will also oversee the Communications and Image, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Media advisory units. Mr. José Luis Martínez was until today economic and markets strategist at Citi in Spain, where he has worked in different business areas over the past 27 years. He regularly publishes articles in newspapers such as Expansión, El Economista, Cinco Días, El Mundo, ABC, and La Vanguardia and contributes to numerous electronic media, radio, and television outlets. He appears regularly on TVE 1 and 24 Horas, Cuatro, and La Sexta and has reserved slots on Radio Intereconomía and Gestiona Radio.
AEB’s new Spokesperson is a member of the European Central Bank Observatory (Shadow ECB) and is a tenured professor at IEB (Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles) and has also been a professor at EOI (Escuela de Organización Industrial). Additionally, he has collaborated in different master’s programs at institutions such as CUNEF, ICADE, and IESE and is currently a regular contributor at the Instituto de Estudios Financieros and CIFF Business School.
Ms. Rocío Sánchez Barrios, who will join AEB in early September, will lead the Public Policy area, a division that encompasses all activities related to Banking, Regulation, Markets, Operations, Payment Methods, Digitalization, and International Affairs. Ms. Sánchez Barrios is a State Trade Technician and has developed much of her professional career at the General Secretariat of the Treasury and Financial Policy, where she was Deputy Director General of Strategic Analysis and International Financial System. She has actively participated in the main international forums for discussion relating to financial stability and regulation, global economy monitoring, and financial markets, particularly in the EU (ECOFIN, EFC), FSB (Financial Stability Board), G20, IMF, and OECD. In Spain, she has been part of the negotiations and monitoring of the European assistance program for the recapitalization of the Spanish banking system, as well as the working groups responsible for stress tests on Spanish banks and the creation of SAREB.
Mr. Juan Carlos Delrieu has been appointed head of Strategic Planning and will also continue to lead the Office of the Chairman. He will also oversee everything related to the areas of Economic Analysis, Organization, and Administration. Mr. Delrieu began his professional career as a graduate of the Research Department of the Bank of Spain, where he specialized in Econometrics and Economic Forecasting at its training center, and worked for Cemex for nearly twenty years, first as Chief Economist in Mexico and subsequently leading teams linked to Strategic and Financial Planning for this company in various Latin American countries. During those years, he completed an MBA (PDD) at IESE and a course in International Business Management at several American universities (Stanford, Wharton, Carnegie-Mellon, and Arizona). He was a member of the OECD Future Trends group and has collaborated as an associate professor with Universidad Carlos III and the Graduate School of Public Policy at TEC de Monterrey.
Mr. Javier Rodríguez Pellitero continues as General Secretary and Secretary of the Council of AEB, also maintaining his current responsibilities as Head of the Association’s Legal Advisory. The General Secretariat also coordinates the Tax, Labor, and Regulatory Compliance areas. The latter includes Retail Banking and Capital Prevention activities.
