Financial inclusion reaches 99.4% of the population in Spain

Our Chairwoman Alejandra Kindelán highlights the banking sector’s commitment to financial inclusion, following a meeting of banking associations with the Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, Carlos Cuerpo.
During the meeting, progress in financial inclusion in rural areas was confirmed through the latest measures implemented as part of the banking sector’s ‘Roadmap,’ which have benefited 322,000 people and 889 additional municipalities.
Spain has the second densest branch network in Europe, with nearly 84,000 contact points available to citizens. Furthermore, over 80% of citizens state they have no difficulty accessing banking services and that banking is one of the services that has improved the most in the last year.

Pioneering agreement to promote financial education for people with disabilities

The Foundation of the Spanish Banking Association (AEB), UCI Unión de Créditos Inmobiliarios, and Fundación Prodis are working together to provide the most vulnerable groups with useful tools for their day-to-day lives. Our alliance demonstrates the banking sector’s commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities. The agreement includes the transfer of educational materials from UCI and Prodis for the AEB Foundation’s volunteer programme, focused on improving personal autonomy and society’s well-being.
