AEB and Junior Achievement Conduct Workshops for Teachers at Bank of Spain Branches
We know that “the relationship with money is part of our daily lives, from a grandparent’s pocket money to knowing how to differentiate between needs and wants.” For this reason, in collaboration with the Junior Achievement Foundation, we organized two workshops at the Bank of Spain’s offices in Valladolid and Badajoz with teachers to share initiatives and practices for conveying the importance of financial education to their students—an initiative we now wish to extend to primary school students. These were two very interesting sessions where we realized the great challenge, but also the great opportunity, involved in educating the youngest children on this subject.

Presentation of the Federico Prades Award in its 3rd edition
Our President, Alejandra Kindelán, presents the Federico Prades Award in its 3rd edition to economist José Abad for his analysis on “The use of banks’ capital buffers: the role of market expectations”. This is a highly valuable contribution to the sector, as it analyses the causes of the limited use of capital buffers during the economic crisis caused by the pandemic and introduces the market expectations component into banks’ decision-making process regarding the application of these buffers.

The Spanish Banking Association (AEB), CECA and the National Union of Credit Cooperative Societies (UNACC) presented on 12 July 2022 in Madrid the “Report on Financial Inclusion in Spain”, prepared by the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie). This in-depth analysis of banking services in Spain maps access to financial services in Spain, especially in rural areas, and notes that, despite the downsizing of Spain’s bank branch network in recent years—concentrated in municipalities with more than 10,000 inhabitants—”accessibility to banking services is good, as currently 98.6% of the population lives in a municipality where there is at least one access point to banking services”.
