The Spanish Banking Association (AEB), CECA, and the National Union of Credit Cooperatives (Unacc) have held a meeting with the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Enterprise, Carlos Cuerpo, which was also attended by representatives of financial users, senior citizens’ groups, and people with disabilities, along with the Bank of Spain and the Ombudsman. Within this framework, the banking associations were able to demonstrate the improvement in financial inclusion, thanks to the measures implemented by the sector.
AEB, CECA, and Unacc have presented the results of the ‘Report on Financial Inclusion in Spain 2024‘, from the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE), which concludes that 99.3% of the Spanish population has access to banking services. Since the implementation of the Roadmap measures, an in-person service point has been provided to 322,049 people and 889 municipalities.
In the meeting with the Ministry of Economy, the banking associations also highlighted the permanent monitoring of progress, as well as the active listening processes regarding financial inclusion. AEB, CECA, and Unacc presented the results of a survey, conducted by Inmark, which reveals that 74% of people over 65 are aware of the decalogue of measures to improve personalized service.
Furthermore, more than 80% of Spaniards state that they do not face any particular difficulty in accessing banking services, at levels similar to education, and consider that banks are among those that have improved their service the most in the last year, along with shops and educational centers.
