On the occasion of the ‘International Day of Older Persons’, celebrated on October 1, the Cibervoluntarios Foundation and the AEB Foundation, of the Spanish Banking Association (AEB), are organizing digital training courses from September 28 to October 2 through Expertclick, their free technology school on the use of smartphones, tablets, and applications of interest to people over 55.
These workshops will take place in municipalities in Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencian Community, and Galicia, as part of the new edition of Expertclick, which will be conducted entirely online to preserve the safety of the elderly, a group particularly vulnerable to COVID-19. The goal is to train 1,200 people in 2020, which will bring the total number of beneficiaries to 2,500 since the program began three years ago.
During this week for seniors, more than 160 people, mostly residents of rural areas, will be trained. However, the program is aimed at all those who need help to better manage their mobile device, regardless of where they reside, as the training will be conducted virtually. The local institutions involved, such as city councils, organizations, or NGOs, will collaborate to facilitate students’ connection to these workshops, by sending the link to each of them and providing the necessary online or telephone support.

These courses consist of three 90-minute sessions each, teaching the use and management of tools, applications, services, and technological content related to video calls, health management, online banking, and social activities that can be done from a smartphone or tablet, thus promoting the independence of seniors in these activities.
