To mark the ‘International Day of Older Persons’ celebrated on October 1, Fundación Cibervoluntarios and the Spanish Banking Association (AEB) Foundation have launched new digital training courses through Expertclick, their free technology school for people over 55, focusing on the use of smartphones, tablets, and relevant applications.
Specifically, 30 workshops will be held from September 27 to October 8, accommodating approximately 300 students from various municipalities in Asturias, Castilla-La Mancha, Castile and León, Extremadura, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, and Navarre. Additionally, with the same objective of improving the digital literacy of older persons, more than 150 activities are scheduled to take place during October and November throughout Spain, both in-person and online, depending on the health situation in each locality.
By the end of this year, more than 1,200 students will have completed these workshops, bringing the total number of beneficiaries of these courses to over 3,000 since the program began four years ago, with the aim of assisting older persons who need help using their mobile devices more effectively.
For José María Roldán, President of the AEB and its foundation, “digitalization is an unstoppable process that allows us to perform daily tasks more easily, such as consulting a doctor or accessing financial services, and all groups, especially older persons, must be able to benefit from the advantages of the digital world, both in difficult times, such as those we have just experienced during the pandemic, and in the normality of everyday life.”
“The Expertclick project remains highly necessary because we must continue to help older persons lead easier lives through technology in an increasingly digitalized world,” states Yolanda Rueda, President of Fundación Cibervoluntarios. “We also want to contribute to ensuring their autonomy and independence and promote active aging, thanks to the opportunities offered by technological tools.”
These courses, consisting of three 90-minute sessions each, teach the use of technological tools, applications, services, and content related to video calls, online banking, healthcare, and social management that older persons perform from their own mobile phones.
Those interested in receiving this training or institutions (senior associations, residences, day centers, senior homes, cultural centers, libraries, city councils) wishing to offer them can request it at www.expertclick.org or by calling 91 542 29 00.
