Juan Carlos Delrieu (AEB) explains the role of banking in the fight against climate change

“Accessibility and banking are synonymous with economic and social progress.” This is stated by our Director of Sustainability, Juan Carlos Delrieu, in Ethic Magazine, where he addresses the key role of the banking sector in the transition toward a decarbonized economy and in the fight against climate change.
Public-private collaboration is essential in the face of these and other major challenges facing society, Delrieu explains. Thanks to ING Spain & Portugal for leading the EmpowerINGTalks project and for including the vision of the Spanish Banking Association.
We celebrated the 2nd Banking Games: 450 employees from eleven institutions compete in 7 disciplines

We have celebrated the second edition of our Banking Games! An event that brings together sport and teamwork, promoted by AEB to encourage physical activity and camaraderie. Nearly 450 employees enjoyed a day of healthy competition at the Golf Santander & Sports sports facilities in Boadilla del Monte. Participants were able to strengthen ties with colleagues from their own bank and meet peers from other institutions during a tournament featuring seven disciplines: football, swimming, golf, X-fit, padel, relay race and pétanque. Our President, Alejandra Kindelán, opened the awards ceremony, in which Santander, BBVA and Bankinter took the podium. Bank employees have been teaching financial education in schools for 10 years

We would like to thank all the bank employee volunteers for bringing financial education closer to young people. A great team that this year has been joined by senior executives from various institutions to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the financial education programme ‘Your Finances, Your Future’, which we run from the Spanish Banking Association together with the Junior Achievement Spain Foundation. 70,000 young people have benefited from this programme since it was launched in 2014, thanks to the 5,000 banking sector employees who have visited schools across Spain to help them develop healthy financial habits. Discover Expertclick, our free digital training school for seniors

This program by the Cibervoluntarios Foundation and the Spanish Banking Association Foundation (AEB), with the support of the Ministry of Social Rights and 2030 Agenda, aims to train people over 55 years old throughout Spain in basic digital skills. These include mobile phone use, communication and leisure applications, digital health, online banking, and electronic administration. Since the program launched in 2018, more than 6,000 people have been trained in its workshops. At least 1,200 seniors will benefit from Expertclick, especially in rural areas, in this 6th edition of 2024.

Presentation of ‘My Digital Banking: Easy and Secure’ in Malaga

In collaboration with the Somos Digital Association, we have launched the ‘My Digital Banking: Easy and Secure’ project, an initiative aimed at improving people’s quality of life and facilitating their inclusion in an increasingly digitalized world. Through various free in-person and online workshops, we aim for adults of all ages to gain confidence and autonomy in interacting with online banking.

Leading experts discuss the digital euro

Under the title ‘From Intentions to Reality’, public and private sector experts analyze the main challenges facing the future implementation of the digital euro, during a session of the ‘Banking Lab’, promoted by the Spanish Institute of Banking and Finance.
The General Director of AEB, María Abascal, moderated the session, which featured the participation of Carlos Cuerpo, Secretary General of the Treasury and International Finance; Juan Ayuso, General Director of Operations, Markets, and Payment Systems at the Bank of Spain; María Ruiz Andújar, Head of Strategy and Business Development for Global Cards and Digital Solutions at Santander; and Santiago Fernández de Lis, Head of Regulation at BBVA.
