CUNEF S.L.’s Board of Directors has agreed today, at the proposal of the AEB Foundation, to appoint Antonio Rodríguez-Pina as Chairman of the company following Álvaro Cuervo’s retirement. During the meeting, Board members thanked Álvaro Cuervo for his dedication to CUNEF, both for his contribution to the development of the Affiliated Centre and for his leadership in the process of transforming it into a private university, under the criteria of excellence, specialisation and internationalisation.
Álvaro Cuervo is an Emeritus Professor of Business Economics, with a long career as a lecturer and researcher. He was awarded the Jaime I Prize for Economics (1992). He has extensive professional experience as a board member of ACS, Sonae SGPS (Portugal), BA Glass (Portugal), BME and AENOR, among other companies.
Antonio Rodríguez-Pina thanked the Board of Trustees of the AEB Foundation and the CUNEF Board for their confidence, and expressed his enthusiasm and willingness to work alongside the Rector, Ana Isabel Fernández, to position CUNEF as a leading international university.
CUNEF University, which is inaugurating a new campus this academic year, continues to expand in the number of students and degree programmes, with a constant focus on academic excellence and on responding to the changing demands of society and the economy.
Antonio Rodríguez-Pina has extensive experience in senior executive positions in the international banking sector. He has also served as a board member of Grupo Lar. He is currently Non-Executive Chairman of Deutsche Bank Spain, a permanent guest of El Corte Inglés’ Board of Directors, and an independent director of Axon Partners, as well as a member of the boards of trustees of various NGOs such as CODESPA and Nantik Lum Microcréditos.
A CUNEF graduate in Economics and Business Administration with honours, Rodríguez-Pina has maintained his connection with the university over the years and was a lecturer from 1996 to 2004.
With the appointment of Antonio Rodríguez-Pina as Chairman of CUNEF S.L., the AEB Foundation reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting the development of CUNEF University. The AEB Foundation is a private, non-profit institution established in 2008 at the initiative of the Spanish Banking Association, with the aim of promoting education, as well as training and research, which are fundamental pillars of the country’s social and economic development.
