The General Assembly of the Spanish Banking Association (AEB) today renewed its confidence in Alejandra Kindelán to hold the position of president for a further four years. Kindelán thanked the Assembly for her re-election and expressed her satisfaction at representing the banking sector in a new mandate.
In the current context of geopolitical uncertainty and technological disruption, Kindelán stressed the importance of deploying the full potential of the banking sector to support the real economy and finance Europe’s strategic needs.
At a time when Europe needs growth, the president of the AEB emphasized that its main objective is to focus all efforts on growth and competitiveness and that the banking sector is prepared to lead this agenda.
In this regard, he advocated progress in regulatory and supervisory simplification, and to promote European integration. To this end, he explained, it is necessary to develop a comprehensive vision of capital requirements, greater predictability of supervisory decisions and to make the objective of financial stability compatible with the promotion of economic growth.
Promoting innovation, digitalization and security will be another cornerstone of its management, supporting the interoperability of European payment systems, especially through the alliance led by BIZUM, which will connect 130 million customers in 13 countries this year.
The Association will also focus on making visible the social commitment of the sector, which has allocated 1,864 million euros to support programs, with special attention to financial education. An education which, he said, should be mandatory and which is the focus of the efforts of entities and associations, which have reached 7.5 million people with their initiatives.
Finally, the president emphasized the AEB’s informative work, aimed at publicizing the contribution of banking to the economy and society, an objective for which the Association has renewed its website, with content on current events and news from the banking sector and its social commitment.
Alejandra Kindelán is president of the AEB and its Foundation since April 2022. In addition, she currently holds one of the vice-presidencies of the CEOE and the presidency of Finresp.
