The Spanish Banking Association (AEB) expresses its satisfaction with the selection of Luis de Guindos as candidate for the position of Vice President of the European Central Bank.
The Eurogroup’s proposal, reached by consensus and ratified by Ecofin, represents recognition both of the candidate’s merit and of the effort made by the Spanish economy and society to leave behind the difficult years of recession and currently lead economic growth in the Eurozone.
Furthermore, AEB expects this appointment to constitute a first step toward overcoming Spain’s deficit in representation in positions and functions of high responsibility in the European Union in relation to its economic and political importance.
