The Spanish Banking Association and its Foundation have launched the sixth edition of their financial education programme “Your finances, your future”, thanks to bank employees who volunteer at schools to introduce economic and financial knowledge to students aged 13 to 15.
By the end of this edition, more than 43,600 secondary school students across Spain will have benefited from workshops delivered by 3,400 volunteers from the banking sector since the programme began in 2015, with a commitment to permanence and continuity over time.
As a new development, around fifty CUNEF university students are joining the programme this academic year to deliver, together with bank executives and employees, workshops aimed at promoting healthy financial habits among students.
“We are very pleased that CUNEF students, who are the professionals of the future, have joined the AEB and our banks’ volunteers to bring financial education into the classroom and thus help young people become informed, responsible citizens with critical thinking,” said the President of the Spanish Banking Association, José María Roldán, after taking part in a programme class session at IES Julio Verne together with Leticia Gutiérrez, a CUNEF student.
“Your finances, your future”, an AEB initiative in collaboration with the Junior Achievement Foundation, a global benchmark in financial education with 100 years of experience, includes for the first time in this edition a session focused on sustainability, the environment, and consumer decisions.
For the Director of Junior Achievement Spain Foundation, Blanca Narváez, “Your finances, your future” “is a living programme that adapts to society’s challenges. It is essential that young people are able to make their own decisions and do so thoughtfully, responsibly and with sound reasoning, and that they are aware that through their actions they can help drive a better world forward”.
In addition to learning how to draw up a household budget or how to shop responsibly, students will be able to test their financial knowledge through the online platform Kahoot and prepare for the national competition to be held on 18 March. The winners will travel to Brussels to take part in the European final on 28 and 29 April.
