The President of the Spanish Banking Association (AEB), Alejandra Kindelán, today advocated for financial education to be included in young people’s mandatory curriculum.

“Financial literacy, and more broadly, the financial education of the population, is fundamental to improving citizens’ quality of life and the growth potential of the economy as a whole. It benefits both the individual and society,” she stated.

Kindelán participated in the inauguration of the exhibition ‘The Ages of Financial Inclusion’ in the Senate, where she highlighted the banking sector’s efforts to bring financial education closer to society and called for further public-private collaboration.

Through the ‘Your Finances, Your Future’ program, in collaboration with the Junior Achievement Foundation, banking employee volunteers have brought financial education to over 70,000 students in the last decade. “From AEB, we will continue our work to promote financial education and digital literacy as essential means for inclusion and improving the quality of life for Spaniards,” Kindelán affirmed.

The AEB President held a dialogue with Senator Esther del Brío, author of the exhibition and PP’s Economy spokesperson; Yolanda Gómez, head of ABC’s Economy section; and Senator Melania Mur, spokesperson for Universities.

She also had the opportunity to present to a group of university students the current situation of the sector, which she described as strong, responsive, and responsible, and explained how the increase in credit in this first quarter contributes to boosting the economy and society.
