Under the theme “Restarting Financial Education,” the first TEDx event promoted by the Spanish Banking Association (AEB) and the Spanish Banking Foundation for Financial Studies (FEBEF) was held yesterday. Junior Achievement and Deusto Business School collaborated on this event.

Through brief and straightforward presentations, entrepreneur Carlos Barrabés, a banking volunteer, a teacher, and a young first-year high school student explained their personal experiences to the hundred attendees and via the official TEDx conference format, on how to increase the financial literacy of citizens, particularly young people.

At the start of the event, AEB President José María Roldán explained that the Spanish Banking Association has promoted this first TEDx on financial education as a way to expand, through this innovative format, the activities of its financial education program “Your Finances, Your Future,” the second edition of which is currently underway thanks to the dedication of 560 volunteers, all banking employees.

The program “Your Finances, Your Future,” which collaborates with the Junior Achievement Foundation and includes the participation of FEBEF and 22 banks associated with the AEB, is part of European Money Week, an initiative by the European Banking Federation (EBF) in the field of financial education that is simultaneously taking place this week in 31 European countries.

With this first edition of TEDx on financial education, the AEB and FEBEF wish to reiterate the commitment of Spanish banks to improving, from the earliest stages of education, citizens’ ability to properly manage their personal finances. Indeed, a large group of schoolchildren attended the event, alongside many other guests.

The event, held at the Hub in Madrid before an audience primarily composed of high school students and teachers, was enlivened by a music group and concluded with a networking session and a cocktail, during which guests had the opportunity to exchange ideas and find ways to collaborate to make financial education accessible to an increasing number of citizens.
