Madrid, March 10, 2015. Presidents, CEOs, and executives from leading Spanish banks taught students at Nazaret de San Blas School (Madrid) a Financial Education class today, the first of six hundred classes to be held during March as part of the Spanish Banking Association’s (AEB) “Your Finances, Your Future” program to disseminate financial knowledge among students.
Among the volunteer instructors who offered a financial education workshop to students at Nazaret School were Grupo Santander CEO José Antonio Álvarez, BBVA CEO Ángel Cano, BCC-Cajamar President Luis Rodríguez González, Banca March CEO José Nieto de la Cierva, BNP España President Ramiro Mato, Société Générale CEO Donato González, Self Bank CEO Alberto Navarro Barco, and AEB President José María Roldán.
This initiative is part of the “Your Finances, Your Future” project, promoted by the AEB, which will be held during the first three weeks of March in more than 100 schools across Spain. More than 400 volunteers from 16 banks will teach classes to 6,500 students who will learn to prepare a personal budget and analyze concepts such as saving, consumption, and investment. The educational content has been designed by Junior Achievement, a non-profit foundation with extensive experience in this type of training for young people.
The “Your Finances, Your Future” project is being launched to coincide with European Money Week, an initiative of the European Banking Federation to promote Financial Education, which will take place simultaneously in 31 European countries and responds to the OECD and G-20’s concern about raising citizens’ understanding of financial products and services.
The banks’ commitment to financial education has a long tradition, but this is the first time that AEB banks have acted jointly in this area, doing so through a program intended to continue over time.
Specifically, AEB banks have launched more than 45 individual initiatives in recent years targeting different groups: students, young people, people at risk of social exclusion, the adult population, and SMEs, among others. In total, more than 2.7 million people have benefited from these programs and have received 8.5 million hours of training, thanks to the generous commitment of more than 4,000 volunteers. All this data can be consulted in the new section created on the AEB website (http://www.aebanca.es/es/educacionfinanciera/index.htm).
