  • Their financial education and digital skills initiatives benefited more than 10 million people in the digital sphere
  • The sector contributes more than 4,000 hours of employee volunteering

The Spanish Banking Association and its member banks have brought financial education to approximately 249,000 students through in-person and digital workshops and seminars organized in 2022, representing a 38% increase over the previous year, according to data compiled by the AEB.

With more than fifty active initiatives, financial training promoted by the banking sector exceeded 1.8 million hours in the last fiscal year. This educational impact on society was made possible thanks to more than 1,500 bank employees who dedicated a total of 4,200 hours to this voluntary teaching work.

Furthermore, banks have benefited more than 10.3 million unique users through digital media in the field of financial education and digital skills training, 27% more than the previous year.

In addition, since 2018, the AEB has been a collaborating entity of the Financial Education Plan promoted by the Bank of Spain, the National Securities Market Commission, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation. This is a national strategy to which the AEB and its member banks contribute very actively with various initiatives to promote the progress and well-being of society.

During this period, through in-person initiatives, the Association has provided financial training and helped improve the digital skills of more than 56,500 people of different ages.

This global effort is the result of the banking sector’s conviction that financial education and digital skills are two very powerful tools for improving quality of life and well-being, both for individuals and for the citizenry as a whole.

In a changing and increasingly digitalized environment like the current one, financial education and digital skills training complement each other and together contribute to fostering social inclusion and economic development by facilitating the use of technology in managing personal finances.
