Insights from the Banking Sector’s Perspective
In the new digital era, the environment in which banks operate presents enormous challenges not only for the entities themselves, but also for financial authorities. This was explained by José María Roldán, President of the Spanish Banking Association (AEB), at the fifteenth high-level conference of the Basel Committee (BCBS-FSI) held in Cape Town.
With the digital revolution, the new operational resilience framework for banks requires a new approach to not only risk management, but also regulation and supervision, as well as the way regulators and regulated entities interact.
“The new world implies new challenges. We may need a new regulatory agreement. But this pact raises questions for which we do not yet have clear answers: in this new environment, perfection is not within our reach,” Roldán stated.
