Ready for the Internet! is a financial education and digital skills program for older adults promoted by the Spanish Banking Association, the AEB Foundation, and the Red Cross. Its objective is to provide training on cybersecurity and fraud prevention to older adults through in-person workshops at Red Cross centers throughout Spain.
The program focuses on training—either in-person or online—staff at Red Cross senior centers across the country, with the aim of enabling them to transfer this knowledge and practical advice to the people they serve daily. In this way, the training is integrated into regular activities with older adults, significantly expanding the program’s reach and bringing it closer to those who need it most.
In recent editions, personnel from specialized units for the care of older adults within the State Security Forces and Corps have also been included, so that they can apply and disseminate this essential knowledge on cybersecurity and prevention among the groups they serve.
The course content covers key topics such as protecting personal information, the most common threats on the internet, safe online practices, and fraud detection. Additionally, the program includes a follow-up session two weeks after the initial training, designed to address questions, reinforce acquired knowledge, and provide additional support. This follow-up session is especially valued by older adults, as it allows them to consolidate what they have learned in a trusted environment.
