The President of the Spanish Banking Association, Mr. Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Rold\u00e1n Alegre, has been appointed Vice President of the European Banking Federation at the EBF council meeting held on May 15 in Riga, Latvia.<\/p>\n

In accordance with the statutes of the EBF, an organization representing banking associations from 32 countries in the European Union and EFTA, Mr. Rold\u00e1n will serve as Vice President for a two-year term, renewable for an additional two years. The EBF presidency was assumed last January by Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Oud\u00e9a, CEO of Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale, a position he may renew in January 2017 for two more years. <\/p>\n

Mr. Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Rold\u00e1n has led the AEB since April 2014. He served as Director General of Banking Regulation at the Bank of Spain and member of its Executive Board between 2000 and 2013. During his tenure as Director General, he was a member of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. Additionally, Mr. Rold\u00e1n was founder and first chairman of the European Banking Supervision Committee, the precursor to the European Banking Authority (EBA). <\/p>\n
