The General Assembly of the Spanish Banking Association has unanimously agreed today to elect Mr. Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Rold\u00e1n Alegre as President of AEB for a four-year term, replacing Mr. Miguel Mart\u00edn Fern\u00e1ndez, who announced his resignation at the end of 2012 from seeking a third term at the head of the Association.<\/p>\n

The candidacy of Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Rold\u00e1n has been presented to the Assembly by the General Council of AEB, which in turn received prior consensus from the five largest banks of the Association, in accordance with the provisions of Article 16.3 of its bylaws.<\/p>\n

The new President of AEB expressed his gratitude to the Assembly for his election as President of the Spanish Banking Association for the next four years and highlighted the honor it represents for him to succeed a person of such distinguished professional trajectory as Mr. Miguel Mart\u00edn Fern\u00e1ndez. He also expressed his commitment to collaborate with member institutions in their constant need to adapt to ongoing changes in the national and international financial system. <\/p>\n

Mr. Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Rold\u00e1n, 50 years old, is an economist with the Research Department of the Bank of Spain; he has been a Commissioner of the National Securities Market Commission and from October 2000 to October 2013 he headed the Directorate General for Regulation and Financial Stability of the Bank of Spain.<\/p>\n

For his part, the outgoing President thanked the member banks for the trust placed in him over the past eight years and expressed his satisfaction at having been able to represent the sector during this period, in which the Spanish banking system has faced, following the outbreak of the international financial crisis and the subsequent recession of the Spanish economy, one of the most complex and intense stages of its recent history.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
