The AEB Ordinary General Assembly today re-elected Mr. Miguel Mart\u00edn Fern\u00e1ndez as president of the Spanish Banking Association for a new four-year term. Mart\u00edn was first elected AEB president in April 2006. <\/p>\n

Mr. Miguel Mart\u00edn’s candidacy for a new term was proposed by the presidents of the banks comprising AEB’s Group One on November 23, 2009.<\/p>\n

The AEB bylaws<\/a> state in Article 20.3 that the Association’s president shall be “presented by the banks comprising Group One” and that “their appointment shall correspond to the General Assembly.”<\/p>\n

AEB’s Group One consists of Banco Santander, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, Banco Espa\u00f1ol de Cr\u00e9dito, and Banco Popular.<\/p>\n

At the end of the vote, Mr. Miguel Mart\u00edn expressed his gratitude to the AEB Assembly for the trust placed in him once again, as well as his satisfaction at being able to represent the sector for the next four years.<\/p>\n

Mr. Miguel Mart\u00edn, married with three children, was born on November 9, 1943, in Jerez de la Frontera (C\u00e1diz).<\/p>\n

The AEB president has spent a large part of his professional career at the Bank of Spain, where he served as Deputy Governor and Director General of Supervision of Credit Institutions. Previously, he was president of the ICO, Director General of the Treasury, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Undersecretary General of Budgets and Public Expenditure. <\/p>\n
