This conclusion is drawn from the <em>Study on Banking Services in Spain in the European context<\/em>, prepared by Deloitte, a leading professional services firm. The study, prepared for the Spanish Banking Association (AEB) and the Spanish Confederation of Savings Banks (CECA), reflects a snapshot of the Spanish banking sector.  <\/p>\n<p>The results of the study show that Spain ranks behind the United Kingdom and is followed by the Netherlands in the provision of basic (transactional) services to its customers, with a price 58% lower than the average of the seven countries analyzed. At the other extreme is Germany, with an average annual price of 181 euros. <\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Spain is also the second country in Europe with the lowest costs in digital banking\u2014the United Kingdom also occupies the first position\u2014being 67% lower than the average of the countries analyzed.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the most common service marketing model in Europe is, as in other industries, the <em>packaging<\/em> of services (<em>bundling<\/em>), with the exception of Spain, which is characterized by a relational model where the long-term relationship between bank and customer prevails with the search for a greater linking of products, and the United Kingdom, which has a <em>free banking<\/em> system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spanish banking outperforms its European neighbors in service offering and accessibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spain is the country where the highest level of banking services\u2014transactional and non-transactional\u2014is offered, both in number and in the availability of channels. The Spanish customer could receive up to 115 services from their financial entities, far from the 67 offered by the United Kingdom and 41% more than the European average, which offers 82. <\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Spanish banking stands out significantly for being the European Union country that offers the highest number of free services (such as withdrawing money at a branch counter) with 87, that is, 76% of the total services available. In this regard, Germany and Portugal, with 48 and 47 services, are at the bottom in the offering of free services. Financial entities in the United Kingdom offer only 52, but these constitute 78% of the available services.  <\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the degree of accessibility of banking services in the national market is well above that of our European counterparts. In Spain, 79% of services are offered through traditional channels and 73% through digital ones, a very high figure compared to other markets, such as the Dutch one, which limits its multi-channel service provision to 57% of its catalog. <\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The retail banking business in Spain <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During recent years, the environment has been unfavorable for the development of the banking business due to the economic recession, increasing regulatory requirements, the deterioration of the industry&#8217;s image, and the profound restructuring of the banking business.<\/p>\n<p>Added to this adverse context is the high level of existing competition and the evolution of the market itself, subject to the challenges of the new digital economies, the recruitment and management of talent, the rise of new competitors in those traditionally more profitable areas of the industry, and the slow recovery in the demand for credit.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the Spanish customer continues to pay a lower price for retail financial services than for other basic services, such as ADSL.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scope and methodology of the study<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The results of the <em>Study on Banking Services in Spain in the European context,<\/em> prepared by Monitor Deloitte, compare the quality-price ratio of basic transactional banking services provided to customers in Spain relative to other countries. At an international level, the report prepared for AEB and CECA compares the level of banking services provided in different European countries. <\/p>\n<p>The results of the study, drawn from the comparison of actual and published rates, &#8220;<em>mystery shopping&#8221;<\/em> techniques, and data extracted from the International Deloitte Retail Banking Strategy Hub, have been preliminarily contrasted with financial entities.
