More than 1,800 students aged 13 to 15 from 75 schools across Spain have tested their knowledge in the National Final of the financial education competition, organised by the Spanish Banking Association (AEB) and the AEB Foundation. This national final forms part of the international European Money Quiz (EMQ), convened by the European Banking Federation (EBF). <\/p>\n
Luna S\u00e1nchez, a student at Quercus Secondary School in Terradillos (Salamanca), won the gold medal in the competition, which was held via Kahoot. Daniel Garv\u00edn, a student at CIEM Federico Moreno Torroba in Madrid, was the runner-up, while third prize went to Carlota V\u00e1zquez, a student at Almanzor School in C\u00f3rdoba. <\/p>\n
During the national final, held on 30 March in collaboration with Junior Achievement, contestants tested their knowledge of personal finance through a simultaneous game. The competition focused on three main topics: money and transactions; planning and managing finances; and risk and rewards. <\/p>\n
The winner of the national competition will represent Spain in the European final on 10 May, where she will compete against students of her age from across Europe. Due to the public health situation, this edition of the European Money Quiz will be held as an interactive online competition with the national winners from the other European countries, instead of the usual in-person competition in Brussels. <\/p>\n
Regarding this competition, the President of AEB, Alejandra Kindel\u00e1n, noted that “it is a real pleasure to see so many teenagers so motivated by financial education, an essential matter for developing healthy financial habits that will be of great value at every stage of their lives”. She also thanked teachers for taking part once again in the National Final of this competition which, together with the ‘Your Finances, Your Future’ programme, is sparking young people\u2019s interest in managing their personal finances. <\/p>\n
The competition\u2019s educational content aligns with OECD guidelines and with the basic financial skills and knowledge so that young people can make informed financial decisions and develop healthy financial habits that are essential at every stage of life.<\/p>\n
Launched in 2017, the European Money Quiz (EMQ), organised by the European Banking Federation (EBF), is Europe\u2019s most widely recognised financial skills competition, promoting financial education through national banking associations in Europe, including AEB.<\/p>\n
