Through this joint statement, Sareb, the Spanish Banking Association (AEB), CECA and the National Union of Credit Cooperatives (UNACC) reaffirm their commitment to make available, free of charge and for as long as necessary, the homes they currently have available in habitable condition on the island of La Palma and in nearby areas to those affected by the volcanic eruption on La Palma. In this way, the associated financial institutions aim to contribute, together with the public authorities and other institutions, to the temporary rehousing of evacuated residents. <\/p>\n
The serious situation facing the population of the island of La Palma following the volcanic eruption on 19 September, which has destroyed numerous homes, severely affected built-up areas and forced residents to evacuate, requires a swift and efficient response from society as a whole. Through this commitment, financial institutions join the effort being made by civil society and public administrations to meet the needs of the families and residents of La Palma affected by these serious circumstances, using the resources available to them. <\/p>\n
To this end, the institutions are currently identifying the number of homes that meet these requirements so they can be made available as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
In addition, other financial measures may be made available, such as advances on compensation payments and preferential financing lines.<\/p>\n
We hope these measures can help mitigate the damage caused by this catastrophe. To this end, appropriate coordination mechanisms will be established between the financial institutions and the institutions involved to arrange access to these homes for those affected. <\/p>\n
