{"id":37851,"date":"2021-11-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-11T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aebanca.es\/actualidad\/notas-de-prensa\/aeb-joins-the-un-net-zero-emissions-alliance\/"},"modified":"2026-04-09T12:37:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T10:37:23","slug":"aeb-joins-the-un-net-zero-emissions-alliance","status":"publish","type":"notas-de-prensa","link":"https:\/\/aebanca.es\/en\/actualidad\/notas-de-prensa\/aeb-joins-the-un-net-zero-emissions-alliance\/","title":{"rendered":"AEB joins the UN Net-Zero Emissions Alliance"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>The Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) brings together more than 90 banks from around the world, including seven Spanish banks<\/li>\n<li>The alliance aims to achieve a global economy with no greenhouse gas emissions by 2050<\/li>\n<li>AEB is one of the first associations to support the initiative, following its endorsement of the Principles for Responsible Banking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Spanish Banking Association (AEB) has formally joined the Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) as a supporting partner, thereby strengthening its commitment to tackling climate change and contributing to the transition towards a more environmentally friendly economy.<\/p>\n<p>This network, promoted by the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), currently brings together more than 90 banks from 39 countries, including seven Spanish banks, committed to aligning their lending and investment portfolios with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>The banking sector-led alliance was launched in April 2021 and is made up of the world\u2019s leading banks, representing 43% of global banking assets. The network is also supported by non-profit associations that carry out activities relevant to the banking industry and promote the implementation of the NZBA commitment. <\/p>\n<p>AEB is one of the first banking associations to support the initiative. In doing so, it undertakes to expand Spain\u2019s presence in the alliance\u2014already supported by 75% of the country\u2019s banking sector\u2014as well as to promote the dissemination of best practices. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very proud of our banks, and of AEB itself, which took a giant step forward with the agreement reached at the Madrid Climate Summit, and which now, on the occasion of COP26 in Glasgow, are once again positioning themselves at the forefront of sustainable finance by joining the Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA),\u201d said AEB\u2019s Chairman, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Rold\u00e1n, who stressed \u201cthe need for national and international authorities to establish rules and standards to guide companies through this transformation process towards a fairer and more sustainable economy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>AEB has also been one of the leading associations to join the Principles for Responsible Banking and has promoted several measures to drive them forward, including the creation of the Centre for Responsible and Sustainable Finance in Spain (Finresp).
