The Spanish Banking Association (AEB) has appointed Mar\u00eda Abascal as Managing Director. From her new position, she will continue to be responsible for Public Policy, an area that encompasses all activities related to Banking, Regulation, Operations, Payment Methods, and Digitalization. She also takes on the coordination of sectoral initiatives and the Sustainability area. This brings together the prudential, digital, and sustainability vision with that of the social contribution of banking, particularly through the development of the Strategic Protocol to Strengthen the Social and Sustainable Commitment of the sector. <\/p>\n
Mar\u00eda Abascal will continue to represent the AEB in the highest governing bodies of the European Banking Federation, as a member of the executive committee and as an alternate on the board of directors.<\/p>\n
With extensive experience in regulation and public policy, she has more than fifteen years of experience in the financial sector, in both the public and private spheres, having spent a large part of her professional career at BBVA where she was Global Director of Institutional Relations and Chief Economist for Regulation and Public Policy.<\/p>\n
She previously worked at the General Directorate of the Treasury and Financial Policy as Deputy Director General of Financial and Strategic Analysis, and at the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) in the Office of the Executive Vice President.<\/p>\n
Mar\u00eda Abascal is a State Economist and Trade Specialist (T\u00e9cnico Comercial y Economista del Estado) and holds a degree in Economics from the Complutense University of Madrid.<\/p>\n
David del Cura has also joined the AEB as Presidential Coordinator; he is a journalist by training with a long professional career in the media and within the Administration.<\/p>\n
David provides a vision of the country’s socio-political reality that will be very useful in guiding the Association’s work.<\/p>\n
These appointments help reinforce the AEB’s priority of contributing to bringing banking ever closer to society.<\/p>\n
