By restoring access to their infected systems free of charge, we offer users a third option they previously did not have.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>What is ransomware?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ransomware is a type of malware that prevents or limits users&#8217; access to their systems or devices. The malware demands that they pay a ransom through specific online payment methods within a set timeframe to regain control of their data. <\/p>\n<p>Infection can occur in many different ways, such as:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visiting compromised websites.<\/li>\n<li>Downloading fake application updates or compromised software.<\/li>\n<li>Clicking on malicious links and attachments embedded in phishing emails.<\/li>\n<li>Connecting infected external devices (e.g., USB) to the computer system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is No More Ransom (NMR)?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NMR is a public-private partnership between law enforcement and industry launched in July 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nomoreransom.org\/es\/index.html\">www.nomoreransom.org<\/a>, the project aims to:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist victims in recovering their encrypted files.<\/li>\n<li>Increase public awareness of the ransomware threat.<\/li>\n<li>Offer direct links to national police services in EU Member States and other countries to encourage citizens to report attacks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How does the system work?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The victim uploads two encrypted files and the ransom note to NMR&#8217;s Crypto Sheriff.<\/li>\n<li>The Crypto Sheriff compares the information with a list of available decryption tools.<\/li>\n<li>If there is a positive match, a link to the tools is provided. The victim only needs to follow the instructions to unlock their files. <\/li>\n<li>If no tool is available at this time, the victim is advised to keep checking in the future, as new tools are added regularly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Tips for Victims<\/strong><strong>How can you avoid ransomware infection?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not click on links in unexpected or suspicious emails.<\/li>\n<li>Only download official software versions and always from trusted websites.<\/li>\n<li>Use robust security products to protect your system from all threats, including ransomware.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure your security software and operating system are up to date.<\/li>\n<li>Browse the internet with caution and do not click on suspicious links, pop-ups, or dialog boxes.<\/li>\n<li>If you have accounts with administrator rights, do not use them for your ordinary work.<\/li>\n<li>As a precaution: back up the data stored on your computer. Keep at least one copy offline. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Infected? What to do next <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nomoreransom.org\/es\/index.html\">https:\/\/www.nomoreransom.org\/es\/index.html<\/a> to check if you have been infected with any of the ransomware variants for which free decryption tools exist.<\/li>\n<li>Do not pay the ransom. If you do, you will fund criminals and encourage them to continue their illegal activities. <\/li>\n<li>Report to the police.
