{"id":35938,"date":"2017-12-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-12-14T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aebanca.es\/actualidad\/te-interesa\/aeb-informa\/do-you-already-have-your-lei\/"},"modified":"2026-04-09T09:53:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T07:53:13","slug":"do-you-already-have-your-lei","status":"publish","type":"blog-aeb","link":"https:\/\/aebanca.es\/en\/actualidad\/te-interesa\/aeb-informa\/do-you-already-have-your-lei\/","title":{"rendered":"Do you already have your LEI?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On January 3, the new regulation on financial markets and instruments<\/strong>, based on the MiFID II Directive and the MiFIR Regulation, will enter into force.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cnmv.es\/portal\/MiFIDII_MiFIR\/MapaMiFID.aspx\">http:\/\/cnmv.es\/portal\/MiFIDII_MiFIR\/MapaMiFID.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The new regulation will require all legal entities operating in securities markets to have an identification code (LEI).<\/strong> This is a 20-character alphanumeric code that enables the identification of legal entities participating in financial transactions.<\/p>\n<p>This code is necessary for financial institutions to comply with the information reporting obligations arising from financial regulations and directives and, consequently, it is necessary for clients operating through a company in securities markets to be able to continue doing so.<\/p>\n<p>The LEI code is unique worldwide and enables operations in different markets. It makes it possible to identify risk in each financial transaction and therefore provides transparency and improves market oversight. <\/p>\n<p><strong>The Mercantile Registry is the institution that issues the code in Spain<\/strong>, although authorities in other countries may also do so. What will happen from January 3 if you are a legal entity and do not have an LEI?
