Expertclick is a digital training program designed for individuals over 55 years of age, with a special focus on those residing in rural areas or with limited access to digital services. Its main purpose is to bring technology closer to this demographic, offering them the necessary tools to use it safely, confidently, and autonomously, thereby improving their quality of life and active participation in the digital society.

The initiative is promoted by the Spanish Banking Association (AEB), the AEB Foundation, and the Cibervoluntarios Foundation, and has been supported by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs, and Agenda 2030 since its creation in 2018. This public-private collaboration has enabled it to reach thousands of people across Spain, promoting digital inclusion as a fundamental right and a key element against isolation and the generational gap.

The program offers both in-person and online training, adapted to the pace and level of the participants. The sessions address practical aspects of using mobile devices and tablets, such as making video calls, managing banking operations, requesting medical appointments, making online purchases, or accessing cultural and leisure content on the internet. All of this is delivered with a clear, accessible approach focused on the real needs of users.

Additionally, Expertclick provides participants with a personalized telephone helpline, exclusively for older adults who need to resolve technological queries. It also offers a website with updated content, practical guides, and explanatory videos, which reinforce learning and allow for continued practice from home.

It is, therefore, a comprehensive program that champions the digital empowerment of older adults, promoting a more inclusive, secure, and human use of technology.

Ready for the Internet! is a financial education and digital skills program for older adults promoted by the Spanish Banking Association, the AEB Foundation, and the Red Cross. Its objective is to provide training on cybersecurity and fraud prevention to older adults through in-person workshops at Red Cross centers throughout Spain.

The program focuses on training—either in-person or online—staff at Red Cross senior centers across the country, with the aim of enabling them to transfer this knowledge and practical advice to the people they serve daily. In this way, the training is integrated into regular activities with older adults, significantly expanding the program’s reach and bringing it closer to those who need it most.

In recent editions, personnel from specialized units for the care of older adults within the State Security Forces and Corps have also been included, so that they can apply and disseminate this essential knowledge on cybersecurity and prevention among the groups they serve.

The course content covers key topics such as protecting personal information, the most common threats on the internet, safe online practices, and fraud detection. Additionally, the program includes a follow-up session two weeks after the initial training, designed to address questions, reinforce acquired knowledge, and provide additional support. This follow-up session is especially valued by older adults, as it allows them to consolidate what they have learned in a trusted environment.

Digital Banking: Easy and Secure is a training program that teaches how to safely use digital banking channels. It is primarily aimed at senior citizens and those residing in rural areas, with the objective of helping them gain confidence and autonomy when operating online.

The Spanish Banking Association (AEB), the AEB Foundation, and the Somos Digital Association promote this initiative. The program offers, with a predominantly practical approach, training on basic internet security guidelines and on the use of online banking applications and ATMs.

The project’s participating networks (such as Espacios Digitalex, Red Conecten, CyL Digital, CeMIT, Guadalinfo, provincial telecenters, Cruz Roja, Madrid City Council, etc.) act as strategic territorial points: they bring the project closer to citizens’ daily lives, organize and adapt the training, provide local support, and make digital banking accessible beyond urban environments. They are the fundamental element connecting the national initiative with the country’s different provinces.

During the in-person workshops, online training activities, and personalized advice, participants practice with generic mobile application, website, and ATM simulators. These resources are also available from home, allowing them to reinforce what they learned in the in-person sessions. These simulators, designed within the framework of this program, are continuously updated to improve the user experience, taking into account the needs identified in previous editions.

Additionally, the program features a public web space where anyone can access the training content.

Connecting Seniors is a digital training program aimed at people over 60 living in urban and rural areas. Its objective is to reduce isolation, increase autonomy, and improve the quality of life of those who participate.

Since 2022, the AEB Foundation and the Spanish Banking Association have been developing this initiative together with Spanish Seniors for Technical Cooperation (SECOT). The sessions are held in person at social centers and senior residences in various municipalities throughout Spain.

One of the most valuable features of the program is that the workshops are led by senior volunteers. This formula, based on the transfer of knowledge between people of the same generation, fosters a relatable learning experience adapted to the participants’ needs.

The primary goal of the workshops is to reduce the isolation of participants, increase their autonomy, and improve their quality of life through the practical use of technology. During the sessions, attendees learn how to use their mobile devices and manage useful everyday applications, such as WhatsApp, Bizum, digital banking, online shopping, or managing appointments and online procedures.

You and Your Mobile is a training program aimed at elderly residents in the Community of Madrid. Its objective is to improve their use of mobile phones and, in doing so, contribute to their quality of life and social inclusion.

The AEB Foundation and the Spanish Banking Association develop this initiative together with the Alicia and Guillermo Foundation. Sessions are held in municipal and private senior centers, as well as in Madrid City Council facilities.

One of the program’s keys is the intergenerational encounter. The workshops are led by specialized teachers and supported by student volunteers from CUNEF University. This collaboration between generations creates an enriching learning space for both program attendees and CUNEF students.

The program features a series of updated materials designed based on the experience and best practices gathered from previous editions. This content is carefully reviewed each year and adapted to respond more effectively to the needs and appropriate language for elderly people.

As a supplement, students receive a practical resource in physical format—an accessible and clear brochure—containing useful tips on the safe and efficient use of their mobile devices. This material serves as a reference guide they can consult at home, especially if questions arise when putting the knowledge acquired during the sessions into practice.

Thanks to these resources, participants not only reinforce what they have learned in the classroom but also develop specific skills to interact with technology autonomously, responsibly, and adapted to their own needs. Ultimately, the program offers a comprehensive educational approach that combines theory, practice, and ongoing support to foster meaningful learning.

Reconnected is an initiative by Fundación Telefónica that seeks to reduce the digital divide and promote social inclusion. It is aimed primarily at older people and other groups at risk of digital exclusion. Its goal is to provide practical training that enables participants to navigate digital environments with greater confidence, with practical examples such as how to make a Bizum transfer, use the bank’s virtual customer service assistant, or check the digital correspondence sent by the bank.

The Spanish Banking Association and the AEB Foundation collaborate on this programme through a specific module on digital banking. This module helps older people learn about and use safely the technological tools offered by banking institutions.

During the sessions, both in person and online, participants learn to communicate with their bank and manage their finances through digital channels. To this end, the programme uses generic simulators of mobile apps, ATMs and websites, developed by the AEB Foundation and Somos Digital as part of the project My Digital Banking: easy and secure, which allow older people to practise in a safe environment and gain confidence in using banking technology.
